Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 1988-89 and 1989-90 to study the effect of sowing time and harvesting on herb yield and nutrient uptake in dill (Anethum graveoletrr L.). Delay in sowing from 15 September to 30 September increased the herbage yield significantly. However, further delay in sowing significantly decreased the herbage yield. Significantly highest uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was recorded when the crop was sown in September. The maximum herbage yield was obtained at flower-initiation stage, and decreased significantly when harvesting was delayed beyond this stage. However, the N, P and K uptake was significantly highest at milk stage and decreased thereafter.
