Weed management in blackgram (Phaseolus mungo)
Keywords:
Blackgram, Weed control, Seed yieldAbstract
A field investigation was carried out under rainfed condition during the rainy . season of 1996 99 at Parbhani, Maharasthra, to evaluate different weed control treatments and work out its economics in controlling the weeds. Pre emergence application of Oxyfluorfen 100 glha or Pendimethalin 750 glha or pre plant .incorporation of Fluchloralin 900 glha was found effective in controlling the weeds and increasing the seed yield and relative monetafj returns of blackgram. The next economic control of weed was observed with 2 hoeing at 3 and 5 weeks after sowing. Seed yield loss of 32% was observed in weedy check.References

Blackgram is one of the important rainy- of different herbicides in comparison to season pulse crops of the Marathwada hand-weeding and hoeing was evaluated in region, grown on rainwater. The sowing of black gram. the crop is done immediately after the onset

of monsoon. The sowing of the crop is done immediately after the onset of monsoon. The experiment was conducted during With the emergence of crop the weeds also kharifseason of 1996-99 at Parbhani. Due emerge due to favourable environmental to below-average yield during 1997 the condition. The weeds cause 45% yield loss data for the said year were not included. (Yadav et al., 1997). The control of weed The soil was Vertisol with pH 8.0, organic during critical period of crop-weed carbon 0.4%, available nitrogen 230 kgha, competition is very important so as to avoid available P,05 15 kg and available KzO 205 yield loss. The availability of labour in kglha. Eight treatments comprising 4 time and field accessibility during rainy weedicides, 3 cultural methods and 1 season becomes the constraint in timely unweeded check (Table 1) were tested in control of weed. Hence selective wedicide randomized block design with 4 can be one of the best alternatives for replications. The crop was sown at 30 cm x economic and timely weed control in 10 cm spacing. Common dose of blackgram. With this objective bio-efficacy recommended N:P:K (25:50:25 kgha) was

applied to all the plots. Fluchloralin was unweeded check. The lowest dry weed incorporated in soil a day before sowing weight was recorded in 2 hand-weeding and Pendimethalin, Metolachlor and and hoeing at 3 and 5 weeks after sowing Oxyfluorfen were applied on the day after which was at par with alLthe treatments sowing. except treatment of pre-emergence-: Metolachlor 1 kgtha and unweeded check.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Highest mean weed-control efficiency
Weed dry weight (56%) at harvest was observed under 2
During the year of experimentation 35% hand-weedings and hoeings followed by grassy, 59% broad leaved and 5 % sedges pre-emergence Oxyfluorfen 0.10 kglha. were observed as dominant weeds in Yadav et al. (1997) also reported blackgram. Amongst the grassy weeds, Oxyfluorfen as effective herbicide in Dinebra retraflexa, Brachiaria eruciformis, reducing weed population. Amischophacelus cuculata, Ischaemmum The highest mean plant height was pilosum and Cynodon dactylolz
