A field experiment was conducted ta study the response of hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) to nitrogen and potassium application at the research farm of the IARI, New Delhi, during the rainy seasons of 1998 and 1999. The application of nitrogen significantly increased the effective tillers, length and weight of panicles, number of grains and filled grains, 1,000 grain weight, grain and straw yields and NPK uptake by hybrid rice up to the level of 200 kg Nlha. With the fitting of quadratic equation, it was found that 165.5 kg N/ha 2s an economic dose for the hybrid rice ( PA 6207 ) and 75 kg K,O/ha applied in 2 equal splits half at transplanting 112 at maximum tillering to get maximum economic yield of rice crop.References

The application of nitrogen significantly increased the effective tillers, length and weight of panicles, number of grains and filled grains, 1,000-grain weight, grain and straw yields and NPK uptake by hybrid rice up to the level of 200 kg Nlha. With the fitting of quadratic equation, it was found that 165.5 kg N/ha 2s an economic dose for the hybrid rice ('PA 6207') and 75 kg K,O/ha applied in 2 equal splits half at transplanting + 112 at maximum tillering to get maximum economic yield of rice crop.
