Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 201415 and 201516 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to evaluate the effect of organic nutrients, inorganic nutrients and combination at varying levels on growth, yield and economics of bajra napier hybrid grass (Pennisetum purpureum Pennisetum glaucum). Combined use of organic and inor- ganic fertilizers at 100% recommended level had significantly increased growth and yield parameters of bajra napier hybrid grass. The increase in growth parameters reflected positively on the yield of bajra napier hybrid grass. The highest plant height, leaves/plant, tillers/plant and biomass were found higher with the application of 25 t/ha of farmyard manure (FYM) along with 100% recommended dose of fertilizers through drip. Application of 25 t/ha of FYM along with 100% recommended dose of fertilizers through drip had resulted in 36.2 and 44.3% in- crease in yield of bajra napier hybrid grass/year harvest during 1st and 2nd year, respectively, and significantly re- corded higher benefit: cost ratio of 1.64 (pooled mean).
