Effect of irrigation and nitrogen regime on yield and yield- contributing characters of upland cotton (Gossypiurn hirsuturn)

Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during the rainy (kitart3 seasons of 1990 and 1991 to study the effect of irrigation and ninogen regime on yield and its attributes of American or upland cotton (Gossypiutrt hirsuturn J,.) at Ludhiana. Normal and heavy pre-sowing irrigations gave slatistically sn,~ilar seed-cotton yield. Various yield-contributing and quality characters @icked bollslplant, boll weight, seed index, ginning outturn) were not affected by levels of pre-sowing irrigation. However, delay in the Tist irrigation from 4 to 5 or 6 weeks after sowing decreased the seed-cotton yield significantly. Nitrogeil @ 60 kg~ha increased the seed-cotton yield and yield-contributing characters significantly compared with those under 0,30 or 90 kg Nha.References
