Production potential and economic feasibility of different rice (Oryza saliva)-based cropping sequences

Abstract
A 3-year (1988-91) experiment having 7 rice (Oryza sativa L.)-baszd crop sequences. viz. rice-fallow-rice, rice-fallow-groundnut (A~.achis hypogaea L.), rice-French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)-groundnut, rice-wheat (Triticum kstivum L. emend. Fiori & Pao1.)-greengram (P. radiatus L.), rice-gram (Cicer arietinum L.)-sunflower (Helianihus annuus L.), rice-sunflower-cowpea [ V i g ~ unguicularn 6.) showed that the rice-French bean-groundnut Walp.] and rice-groundnut-greengram, recorded the maximum grain productivity, gross returns, rice-grain equivalent, net returns (Rs 29,464ha) and land-utilization efficiency, follo~ed by rice-fallow-groundnut (Rs 24,932ha). Rice- wheat-greengram sequence also showed more grain productivity, gross and net returns than rice-fallow-rice, a traditional sequence.References
