Response of winter maize (Zea mays) to integrated weed management

ABSTRACT A f eld study was carried out for 2 years (winters of 1998 99 and 1999 200) with 14 weed management treatments at Pusa, to know the response.of winter maize (Zea mays L.). Significantly higher grain yield of 89.80 q/ha (on the basis of maize yield equivalence) was obtained with applicat on of Atachlor 1.5 kg a.i.1 ha French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) as smother crop, followed by French bean only as smother crop (67.43 q/ha). Hand weeding with 60.30 q/ha yield was at par with Atrazine 1.5 kg a.i./ha 2, 4 D 0.8 kg a.e./ha (56.20 q/ha) and Alachlor, 1.5 kg a.i./ha Atrazine 0.5 kg a.i.1ha (53.50 qlha).
